Robert D. Shorb '76 and Mary E. Manbeck Shorb '78 Scholarship

This scholarship endowment was created to make a college education more accessible and affordable; especially for those who are first generation students.

Selection Criteria:

1. Preference will be given to a first-generation college student from South Central PA majoring in Education

2. If no such student meets the primary preference in any given award year, then the scholarship may be awarded to an Education major

3. This scholarship can be awarded to either an incoming student to support recruitment efforts or to a returning student.

4. Although this scholarship is not limited to first generation college students, it is a priority consideration that it be awarded to applicants who are. Academic promise is important, but academic merit is not a consideration for this scholarship. The road to a college degree is paved with countless detours for the average student, but students who are the first in their family to choose that path can anticipate more obstacles in their academic endeavors. As such, this scholarship is to be awarded to a student applicant who has a demonstrated high financial need.
