Frans Baggerman ’79 Memorial Scholarship for Math Education

Selection Criteria

1. Restricted for the use and support of scholarships for Mansfield University’s Education Department
2. This scholarship will be awarded to a Math Education major
3. The scholarship recipient will be a returning student in their sophomore, junior, or senior year
4. The scholarship recipient will have a minimum 3.0 GPA
5. Student applicants can be upper class transfer students
6. Preference will be given to student applicants who are first generation college students. Student applicants will submit an essay to their department chair about The Importance of Being a First-Generation College Student
7. If in any given academic year there is no eligible first-generation college student applicant, the scholarship may be awarded to a traditional returning student meeting all other requirements. However, the student applicant is asked to reflect upon the theme of what it means to be a first generation college student and respond in an essay. For example, perhaps their grandparent or a parent was a first generation student.
