Van W. Emmons, Sr, & Katherine R. Emmons-'72 Scholarship for Social Work
Van W. Emmons was a lifelong resident of the Cowanesque Valley in Tioga County, PA. He attended Mansfield State Teachers College as a music major in 1941 prior to entering the U.S. Navy and serving in WWII. From 1980 until his death in 1989, Mr. Emmons served as the Tioga County Commissioner and was a mentor and role model to several other public servants and community members. As a public servant, he worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for Tioga County residents. He primarily did this by promoting industry and employment opportunities, housing, better local government agencies and social welfare. Mr. Emmons considered it a privilege to be part of a county with such a rich history and natural beauty and firmly believed that Mansfield State Teachers College was a positive asset for the people of Tioga County.
