The Richard N. and Doris M. Talbot Music Scholarship

The Richard N. and Doris M. Talbot Music Scholarship

Dr. Richard Talbot was the director of the Mountie marching band from 1971 through 1980. In 1971 the marching band had 182 members, which at that time was the largest marching band in the state system as well as the largest for Mansfield State College. The band grew to 230 members within two years. Mrs. Talbot was always there for the students and her husband with emotional support and determination. Mr. and Mrs. Talbot were an inspiration to the students and embodied the motto of the Mountie Marching Band, “Pride, Spirit, and Excellence.” In his memory, this scholarship is awarded to an entering freshman at Mansfield University majoring in Instrumental Music.
