The Eugene Jones Music Vocalist Scholarship

The Eugene Jones Music Vocalist Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Helen Elizabeth Jones in memory of her brother Eugene Jones, who taught voice, piano, chorus, music history and literature at Mansfield University from 1956 until his retirement in 1983. He lived in Mansfield until his death in 1997. Mr. Jones was born and raised in Washburn, Missouri. He received his bachelors degree in music from Southwest Missouri State in 1939. He served in the United States Army between 1940 to 1945. After returning from WWII, Mr. Jones continued his study at Oberlin Conservatory, Julliard School of Music and the Eastman School of Music where he earned a Masters Degree in Music. Before coming to Mansfield, Mr. Jones taught at Tulare Union High School in California and Central Washington College. Eugene Jones, who was known affectionately as “Jonesy,” was a fine pianist and beloved teacher. He was instrumental in establishing Mansfield’s Feature Series of guest artists and speakers. Jonesy was a friend and an inspiration to everyone who knew him.
