The Bertram Francis Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established by Bertram Francis’ four children in honor of his dedication to the Music Department at Mansfield University. The children, Lois Bush ‘59, Jean Cloos ’59, Kathleen Gearinger ’64, and Wayne Francis ’71, are all alumni of Mansfield University. In 1953, Mr. Francis founded the Concert Wind Ensemble as an elite performance group open to the finest undergraduate and graduate performers. At that time this ensemble was only the second ensemble assembled in the nation. The vision for the ensemble then, as it is today, includes performing the finest quality musical literature. The result is an organization that tours and is recognized as one of the oldest and most outstanding ensembles attracting many student to Mansfield University’s Music Department. Mr. Francis has always displayed a sincere interest and concern for students. It is through this scholarship fund that we recognize his wide and renowned service to Mansfield University and the Music Department.
