Terry and Michele Manning Athletic Scholarship Endowment
As the oldest of 11 children, Terry’s family was unable to afford to assist with the cost of tuition. To help put himself through Mansfield University, Terry worked in the kitchen washing dishes and mopping the floors in the dining hall. As a senior, Terry was surprised to learn that he had received a scholarship from former MU president, Dr. Rathgeber, which was instrumental in allowing him to graduate in 1963. It was the first time as a student that every once in a while Terry was able to keep one of his paychecks and have $20 left in his pocket. Throughout Terry’s life he remembered the impact that the scholarship had on helping him achieve a great education thus enabling him to build a successful career as an educator and coach. In addition to what he learned at Mansfield, receiving a scholarship taught him an important lesson on giving back. Terry and his wife Michelle are happy to be able to give back to support future MU students and encourage the recipients of this scholarship to do the same once they graduate. Terry established this scholarship to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding student athletes who are returning seniors.
