Helen D Lutes Field Hockey Endowment Fund

This scholarship fund was established by Helen Dieffenbach Lutes for the purpose of attracting academically and athletically talented female student-athletes to Mansfield University. Helen Dieffenbach Lutes was no stranger to Mansfield athletics. She is a member of the Mansfield University Athletic Hall of Fame, along with her husband Ferris Lutes, making them the only husband and wife team in the Hall of Fame. Helen taught at Mansfield University for 29 years and coached tennis and field hockey, Mansfield’s first two varsity sports for women. In addition to her teaching and coaching duties, Helen was also in charge of women’s intramural programs at Mansfield; a position that was strictly volunteer at the time. She was also the interim chair of the Health and Physical Education Department. Helen retired in 1974 as a full professor and was granted the honor of faculty emeritus.This scholarship is awarded to a member of the women’s intercollegiate Field Hockey team at Mansfield University demonstrating the highest traits of leadership, citizenship, behavior, and character both on and off the field.
