Bea Klingaman Endowed Scholarship
Bernice (Bea) Klingaman was the ultimate music educator. She was a valued colleague to peers, administrators, and the community. While learning the Kodaly method, she introduced the philosophy to all the areas of the arts and developed the Sensory Motor Integrated Learning Exprience (SMILE) program. With the assistance of classroom teaching staff, SMILE became a pre-reading program with the arts contributing daily to child development. The construct was for all children and became the foundation for a productive music department with solid music skills. Bea served as Elementary Curricular Chairperson for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. Her expertise and teaching style was in demand locally and nationally as a clinician. Whether it was singing contralto, playing the Steinway, or hearing the symphony, Bea was comfortable in the world of music. Yet no one can say her name without thinking education.
